Police Chase, Manhunt in Wrightstown Sends Trick-or-Treaters Indoors

A man suspected of robbing a bank in Raritan, NJ led police on a chase that ended just north of Newtown.

A bank robbery and police chase that began in New Jersey ended in Wrightstown after a crash at a shopping area off Durham Road and subsequent manhunt.

Trick-or-treaters in Wrightstown’s Wrenwood neighborhood were told to stay indoors as police searched for the suspect, according to witness accounts.

According to a report by the Hunterdon County Democrat, a bank in Raritan was robbed Friday. Police from there, as well as officers from Lambertville and West Amwell, followed the suspect into Bucks County, where they were joined by officers from Newtown Township.

The chase went down Route 413 and through Wrightstown. The suspect crashed at Carousel Village around 6:30 p.m., according to the Democrat. A foot pursuit followed and the suspect was reported in custody at 7:20 p.m., the Democrat reported.

A tracker was placed in the $3,000 of stolen money and police used signals from the device to locate the suspect, according to the report.

Residents who live nearby the manhunt said they were told by police to stay indoors. A search helicopter landed in the Christmas Tree farm just behind Carousel Village, one resident said.
