Police Seize Suspected Drugs, Cite Motorists In Newtown Township

Police make DUI arrest, respond to retail theft, investigate a case of fraud and conduct a truck safety enforcement detail.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests from August 18 to 23, including one incident of fraud, one retail theft, one suspected DUI, two disorderly conducts and one protection from abuse enforcement.

Friday, August 18

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:15 p.m. to report and incident of fraud and identity theft. The resident explained that someone attempted to take out a $10,000 loan with their name, address, date of birth, and social security number. A fraud alert was issued and the bank canceled the loan.
  • Police were dispatched to the intersection at Durham and Eagle roads shortly before 6 p.m. for the report of a two-vehicle traffic accident. Upon speaking with one of the operators, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. Police said the driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver refused to submit to chemical blood testing. Charges are pending.

  • At approximately 9:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on an Audi S4 driver for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Second Street Pike and Swamp Road. As a result of the investigation, a small amount of suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence. The driver was cited for disorderly conduct.

Sunday, August 20

  • At approximately 2:15 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on an Acura TL driver for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Buck and Mill Pond roads. As a result of the investigation, a small amount of suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence. The operator was cited with disorderly conduct.

  • At approximately 10 a.m. police were dispatched to a facility in Newtown Township for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, one subject was taken into custody without incident and charged with violating a Protection From Abuse order.

Wednesday, August 23

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Brandywine Boulevard and Lindenhurst Road. The unit is made up of officers from the Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield Township police departments. During the detail, nine trucks were stopped and inspected. One truck was placed out of service and towed from the location. Three citations and six warnings were issued for violations that were found.
  • Police were dispatched to the GAP store at the Newtown Shopping Center around 3:45 p.m. for the report of a retail theft. An investigation is ongoing.
