UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — In what police are calling a “depraved and criminal act,” someone is placing political signs in the township taped with razor blades.

“Over past election cycles we have dealt with theft of signs, vandalized signs, neighborhood disputes, etc., but this is the first time we have dealt with this situation,” said Upper Makefield Police in a Facebook posting. “What happened here is totally unacceptable and a disgusting act.”

According to police, a Shapiro yard sign was placed without permission on private property. When the resident went to remove the sign, they cut their fingers on razor blades placed around the perimeter of the sign, police said.

“Obviously this was designed to inflict punishment on anyone who attempted to remove the sign,” police said.

Officers also found Fetterman and Ehasz signs with razor blades placed around the perimeter of the signs. The signs were subsequently removed by police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police are warning residents that if signs are placed on their property without permission, they should carefully inspect them before attempting their removal. If any implements are discovered on the signs, they should contact police immediately.

“No matter your political affiliation, no matter your candidate preference, resorting to this type of depravity in unacceptable and criminal,” said police in their posting.
