Popular Indian Restaurant In Newtown To Close Temporarily

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — After nine years in business, the owners of Guru’s Indian Cuisine, located at 203 North Sycamore Street, will temporarily close the beloved Newtown restaurant.

Ashni “Baba” Kumar and Priya Guru are hitting the pause button for several months to concentrate on their three-year struggle to adopt two young sisters from India.

“It’s been an exhausting experience,” explained Priya. “We hope to travel to India in the coming weeks to complete the adoption process, and we hopefully will have some good news to share.”

The final day of service will be Sunday, January 7, 2024. However, before they go the Gurus will be hosting a “so long for now” celebration that will be open to the public on Thursday, January 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. complete with complimentary cocktails and passed hors doeuvres.

The Gurus are requesting a $20 donation from all attendees, which will go directly to Guru’s Guardian Angels, a nonprofit that the couple launched in September dedicated to rescuing and sheltering stray animals around the world.

“This is a bittersweet announcement, but we plan to be back - bigger and better than ever - during the spring of 2024,” said Priya. “We cannot wait to re-launch and continue to serve
the Newtown community as soon as possible.”
