Portion Of Washington Avenue To Close For Bridge Repair

Heads up! Daytime traffic next week on Sycamore and State streets could get backed up due to bridge repairs on Washington Avenue.

Washington Avenue will be closed and detoured between Sycamore Street and State Street in Newtown during the day next week for bridge repairs, officials with PennDOT announced Wednesday.

The road will be closed for repairs to the bridge over the Newtown Creek Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Crews will repair the concrete bridge deck and sidewalks, PennDOT said.

During the closure, Washington Avenue through traffic will be detoured over Sycamore Street, Centre Avenue and State Street. 

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Drivers should leave extra time when traveling through the area.

The work will be completed by PennDOT Bucks County maintenance employees.

The one-span, concrete I-beam bridge was built in 1932 and rehabilitated in1972. It is 55 feet long and 28 feet wide. The structure carries 7,908 vehicles a day, according to PennDOT data.
