DUI Arrests, Possession Charges: Newtown Township Police Report

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests:

August 5

  • At approximately 9:45 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Elantra operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the Newtown Bypass and Summit Trace area. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of marijuana. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence results.

  • Police were dispatched to the 7-11 on South Sycamore Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. for the report of a retail theft that occurred earlier in the night. The total value of loss was approximately $320. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

August 9

  • At approximately 3 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Mustang operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive area. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 5:45 p.m. police were dispatched to a parking lot in the Pheasant Run area for an attempted theft from a vehicle, involving a smashed car window. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

August 10

  • At approximately 4:30 a.m. police observed suspicious activity in the North Park Road area. As a result of the investigation, a man was taken into custody and charged with possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Lookout Park on River Road in Upper Makefield Township. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, nine trucks were stopped and inspected. One trailer was placed out of service and four citations and five warnings were issued for violations that were found.
  • At 11:30 a.m. a Newtown Township resident reported that their elderly mother was the victim of an exploitation theft. The investigation is ongoing at this time and police advised all residents to take steps to protect themselves and their loved ones against scams. Some steps you can take can be found here.
