How? Tell your friends about it; register and walk; form a team; do some fundraising; become a sponsor; donate to a walker or the Walk; volunteer for a committee now; or help on that day.
Why? To show that recovery is real—it’s happening NOW; so that the joyful solidarity of 18,000 or more people can provide hope to others; to do your part in reducing the stigma of the disease of addiction; to educate the media; to celebrate SAMHSA’s Recovery Month; to honor people and organizations that provide services for the recovery community; to honor those who have not survived this disease; and to raise funds so that PRO-ACT can continue to expand its services to the growing number of individuals and families who wish to access and sustain long-term recovery.

What is PRO-ACT? Pennsylvania Recovery Organization—Achieving Community Together is a well-respected, highly visible, and vibrant grassroots organization for people affected by substance use disorders and their families. PRO-ACT works throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania to promote recovery through community programs and activities, shape public policy at all levels, and reduce the stigma of addiction. What is Recovery Month? Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and/or substance use disorders. The 2013 Recovery Month theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together on Pathways to Wellness,” represents the many ways that people can prevent behavioral health issues, seek treatment, and sustain recovery as part of a commitment to living a mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy life.
