Rainy Forecast Impacts Memorial Day Weekend Events At Washington Crossing

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — Due to a forecast for significant rain on Saturday and continued rain chances on Monday, Washington Crossing Historic Park is canceling its free Memorial Day Weekend Concert on Saturday.

While the concert has been cancelled, the park’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday will continue as scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Soldiers’ Gravesite at Thompson-Neely on Route 32 in Solebury.

The observance will include a colonial color guard, fife and drum music, Revolutionary War reenactors, veterans, and other honored guests as the public gathers to pause and reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice.

During the ceremony, American flags will be placed on the graves of soldiers who died during the Continental Army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. While no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing or the First Battle of Trenton, some soldiers later died from exposure, disease, or previous injuries. Captain-Lieutenant Moore is the only soldier buried at this site whose identity is known.

Captain Timothy Reeves of the Lower Makefield Police Department will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. A Bucks County native, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for courage and distinguished service.

Park officials said they will continue monitoring weather conditions and will share updates if anything changes on its Facebook page.

“While we are disappointed to cancel the concert, we hope you will join us for our expanded Independence Day Celebration on July 4, featuring live music by Keith Chasin and fireworks over the Delaware River,” the park said in its posting.
