The House of Representatives of the 116th Congress of the United States shows a growing number of co-sponsors for House Joint Resolution 48, a proposed amendment to the US Constitution to declare that artificial entities, such as corporations, should not have Constitutional rights, and that money is not free speech.

Local support for HJR 48 has grown since the Bucks County affiliate formed several years ago and started educating local groups and the public on the importance of this amendment.
District 1 has over 600 signatures and just fewer than five hundred thousand nationally in support of the amendment, and has 44 co-sponsors.
Many states have already passed resolutions in support of such an amendment and Pennsylvania is working on it with the House Resolution 440 – which is pending a vote with the support of 36 cosponsors.
After numerous attempts and a meeting with their staff, the groups have not been able to get any response from the office regarding Fitzpatrick’s position on this proposed amendment since 2016.
On May 28, a coalition of grassroots organizations and constituents will be holding a public demonstration and press conference outside Fitzpatrick’s office.
During the demonstration, delegations of constituents hope that a meeting with Fitzpatrick’s office can be arranged.
The groups want to him to take a position and to strongly encourage him to support the amendment, proposed by Representative Pramila Jayapal, in the House.
The demonstration will feature speakers from Move To Amend local Buck’s County Affiliate, BEA, and POWA discussing how their work is impacted by corporate power and the influence of money in elections.
