Resident Hides In Closet While Upper Makefield Home Is Burglarized

Police said the man entered the bedroom and tried to open the locked closet where the resident was hiding.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — A man broke into an Upper Makefield home early Sunday
afternoon while the homeowner hid in an upstairs bedroom closet.

At 12:51 p.m., police said a man rang the doorbell numerous times at a home on Davis Drive, banged on the front door, and then proceeded to break into the house by smashing through a rear glass door.

The resident called 911 to report the burglary from a second floor closet where they were hiding. At one point, the man entered the bedroom and tried to open the locked closet where the resident was hiding out, police said.

The resident described the man as being taller and heavy set. He was wearing a beanie style hat, a blue pullover hoodie, and pants.

Officers arrived on scene in under three minutes, secured the perimeter, and entered the home. The home was searched and the subjects were not found. The resident was found safe in the closet and escorted out of the home by officers.

During the ensuing investigation, the resident recalled seeing a white vehicle parked across the street while the man was banging on the door. That vehicle had left prior to police arrival. However, a canvas of the neighborhood resulted in a Ring camera image of a vehicle police believe may be connected to the burglary.

Anyone who lives along Woodhill Road, Taylorsville Road, Cooper Road, and in the Timber Knoll development is asked to review their surveillance camera systems between 12:30 and 1:10 p.m. for the vehicle, possibly a Mazda CX9. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jumper at 215-968-3020.

Police commended the homeowner for keeping their cool in a very stressful and frightening situation.

“We were amazed by their composure and ability to remain calm in such a stressful and frightening situation,” said police. “Their ability to provide us with pertinent information will definitely aid us in our investigation. They did everything right and we cannot thank them
enough."

The Upper Makefield Township Police Department was assisted by police from Newtown Township, Lower Makefield, Solebury Township, and a K-9 unit from Northampton Township.
