Retail Burglary, Cryptocurrency Fraud Reported In Newtown Township

Police also investigated worthless checks and counterfeit currency and made several suspected DUI arrests.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between March 4 and 9:

March 4

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police at 11 a.m. to report receiving worthless checks for services rendered. An investigation is ongoing.

  • At approximately 1:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford SUV operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Washington Crossing Road and Stoopville Road. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

March 6

  • A Wrightstown resident contacted police around 2:30 p.m. to report a cryptocurrency fraud. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
  • Police were dispatched to the Village at Newtown Shopping Center at 7:30 p.m. for several reports of counterfeit currency. The incidents occurred at MOD Pizza, Chipotle, Chopt, and Crumbl Cookies. An investigation is ongoing.

March 7

  • Police were dispatched to a Wrightstown Township residence around 1:30 a.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, one subject was arrested and charged with simple assault and harassment.
  • At approximately 7 p.m. police were dispatched to South Sycamore Street in the area of WSFS Bank for the report of a single-vehicle traffic accident. Charges are pending against the operator, who is suspected of driving under the influence.

March 8

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and Upper Makefield. During the detail, 10 trucks were stopped and inspected and one was placed out of service. Four citations and 14 warnings were issued for violations.

March 9

  • At approximately 9 a.m. police were dispatched to Bed Bath & Beyond for the report of a burglary. The investigation is ongoing.
