Retail Thefts Reported, Traffic Stop Ends In Arrest: Newtown Police
Police also investigated a $500,000 lottery raffle fraud case, a theft from vehicle and arrested a driver on suspected DUI.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department responded to the following calls between Dec. 9 and 14:
December 9
- At approximately 2:15 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy sedan operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Richboro Road and Mill Pond Road. As a result of the investigation, the operator was taken into custody on active arrest warrants from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office and the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office. Suspected narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a firearm were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending.
- Shortly before 3 a.m. police were dispatched to a single-vehicle car accident in the area of Swamp Road and Rushland-Jamison Road. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- At approximately 6:30 a.m. police were dispatched to a parking lot on South Eagle Road for the report of a theft from vehicle. The passenger-side rear-window was broken into and a purse was stolen. At approximately 7 a.m. police were also dispatched to a parking lot on Richboro Road for the report of two more similar thefts from vehicles. The investigations are ongoing at this time.
December 10

- At approximately 11:30 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Pontiac G6 operator for committing a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass at Lower Silver Lake Road. As a result of the investigation, the operator was arrested on narcotics-related charges.
December 11
- At approximately 12:45 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Cadillac DTS operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Linton Hill Road. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of burnt marijuana. Suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The operator refused to submit blood for chemical testing, and charges are pending.
December 12

- Police were dispatched to Ulta Beauty at approximately 5:45 p.m. for the report of a retail theft that occurred earlier in the day. The total value of loss was $420. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
December 13
- A Newtown Township resident contacted police at noon to report a fraud involving an altered check. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
- A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 1:15 p.m. to report a fraud. The resident received a letter in the mail from the “Atlantic Lottery Inc.,” claiming she won a lottery raffle and would be awarded $500,000 as a result. Along with the letter, the resident received a check in the sum of $5,996.40 with an explanation that it was to cover the tax, insurance, shipping, and handling of her winnings. When the resident brought the check to the bank, they informed her that the check was fraudulent. Fortunately, the resident did not suffer a monetary loss as a result.
December 14
- The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Lookout Park in Upper Makefield. The unit is made up of officers from the Newtown Township, Newtown Borough and the Upper Makefield Township police departments. During the detail, 20 trucks were stopped and inspected and 11 citations and 10 warnings were issued for violations that were found.
- Police were dispatched to 4Ever Young at approximately 1:45 p.m. for the report of a retail theft. The total value of loss was $2,673. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
