NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The hottest new addition to town also happens to be its coolest.
The Newtown Ice House, which opened its doors on April 15, celebrated its official grand opening on May 10 with a ribbon cutting and a business card exchange organized by the Newtown Business Association.
The Ice House has been a hit from day one attracting long lines of customers and a buzz on the street as locals get a taste of one of the best handcrafted water ices in Bucks County.

So what’s been the most popular flavor among Newtownians?
“Strawberry Lemonade,” said Jackie without hesitation. “Pretty much everyone likes that.”

“This is exactly what we’re looking for in town,” said Dan Petty, vice president of the Newtown Business Association. “The people you see going into this building are all coming out smiling.
“One of the most pivotal parts of our town are local small businesses owned by such amazing people like the McGonigal’s. They are some of the classiest, most upstanding people that you can find in Newtown. They are the most down to Earth, sweet, humble people. And they will give you
the shirt off their back if you ask for it. That’s the kind of people we want coming into Newtown.”
State Senator Steve Santarsiero, who has been a regular at the Yardley Ice House with his wife and children for years, said it’s exciting to see the business expand to Newtown.
“They are an institution in Yardley. They will be one here in Newtown as well,” predicted Santarsiero.
The new addition was also receiving good reviews from one of the toughest critics in the crowd, State Rep. Perry Warren who once operated his own neighbor ice cream business.
“I’m always happy to see more ice and more ice cream options in town. It’s also good to see a successful business at this end of State Street,” he said.
“It was sad to see Mom Mom’s go. We stopped in there a lot and enjoyed her catering as well,” said Warren, of the bake at home pizza shop that occupied the space before the Ice House. “But it’s good to see another business here that is attracting people. It gives people another option to stroll up in this direction.”
The McGonigal’s recently announced the expansion of weekend hours. The Ice House will now be open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
