Road Closures Announced In Advance Of Shamrock Shuffle In Newtown

Residents living along the 5K route are encouraged to consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Residents and visitors can expect temporary road closures and parking restrictions on Saturday, March 14, for the annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K, which will run through historic Newtown Borough.

The 5K run is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Registration and the start/finish line will be located at Newtown Borough Hall, 23 North State Street, Newtown 18940. Event information and parking details are available on the Newtown Shamrock Shuffle website.

Road closures are set to begin at 7 a.m. on March 14. North State Street between Washington Avenue and Greene Street will close for event setup in front of Borough Hall. Additional road closures will start at 8:30 a.m., affecting several streets along the 5K route.

The closures include North State Street (Washington Avenue to Edgeboro Drive), Greene Street (North State Street to North Congress Street), and Edgeboro Drive (North State Street to Linton Hill Road). Frost Lane (Edgeboro Drive to North Lincoln Avenue), Jefferson Street (North Sycamore Street to North Lincoln Avenue), Liberty Street (Washington Avenue to Jefferson Street), North Congress Street (Washington Avenue to Frost Lane), and North Chancellor Street (Washington Avenue to Frost Lane) will also be closed.

Federal Lane Jefferson Street at North Sycamore Street in Newtown Township will also be impacted.

Parking restrictions will also be in effect. No parking will be allowed on North State Street between Washington Avenue and Greene Street starting at 6 a.m. for event setup. Overnight parking in the Newtown Borough Hall parking lot, located at 23 North State Street, is also prohibited. Participants are advised to follow instructions in their Shamrock information packet and note that no parking will be permitted along the race route.

According to the the Newtown Borough Police Department, local businesses will remain open during the event. The department added that it will assist as much as possible with travel in Newtown. Roads will reopen once all participants have safely crossed the finish line.
