Route 29 Pedestrian Bridge To Close At Washington Crossing Park, NJ

The bridge is expected to remain closed until construction of the park's new visitors center is completed in 2026.

TITUSVILLE, NJ — The pedestrian bridge that takes visitors over Route 29 at Washington Crossing State Park will temporarily close in the coming weeks as construction on the park’s new visitor center commences. The bridge is expected to remain closed until construction is completed in 2026.

Park visitors who typically enter the park over the pedestrian bridge should review Washington Crossing State Park’s map for alternate routes to parking areas in the park. Click here to review the maps and routes.

The new visitor center is one of several projects the State Park Service is undertaking in preparation for the celebration of the United States’ Semiquincentennial Anniversary, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The 250th anniversary will happen on July 4th, 2026, although events marking the various historical events before and after the July 4th 1776 signing will begin as early as 2024 and continue through 2033.

The new visitor center is designed to be built into the landscape, featuring a green roof, a multipurpose theater and immersive exhibits.

Funding is made possible through constitutionally dedicated Corporate Business Tax revenue in accordance with the Preserve New Jersey Act. Additional support is provided by the American Rescue Plan made available by Governor Phil Murphy for projects supporting improvements to the state’s Revolutionary War historic sites in anticipation of “America 250” the nation’s Semiquincentennial Anniversary.
