Salute To Mothers Scholarship Tea Announced By Foundation

Since its inception, the Mothers Scholarship Tea event has provided 200 scholarships, representing more than $315,000 in support.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Bucks County Community College Foundation (BCCCF) has announced plans for its 17th annual “Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea Event” to be held on Friday, April 19 from 1 t0 3 p.m. at the Newtown campus.

Year after year, the distinctive afternoon raises scholarship funds for current student mothers who attend the Bucks County Community College. Guests of the fundraising event relish in a tented tea affair situated within the exquisite Tyler Gardens as they are served classic gourmet tea sandwiches, tea, and desserts.

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite springtime hats, flaunting their millinery best and their support of student mothers. Live entertainment is provided by violinist and vocalist Claudia Pellegrini. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased at: http://www.salutetomothers.net/.

“As someone who works directly with the people this scholarship supports, it is particularly meaningful to continue serving on this committee and carry on the great work Betty Tsai started seventeen years ago,” said Amy Masgay, Office of Student Affairs, Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea Planning Committee Member. “The generosity of last year’s Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea attendees and contributors allowed us to support 34 Bucks students in their pursuit of higher education. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together this year.”

The 2024 Salute to Mothers Scholarship Scholarship Tea Committee includes: Mary Ellen Bornak, Susanne Derby '70, Jennifer Frost, Samantha Gross, Mary Jane Leonard, Amy Masgay, Karen Meadows, Nereida McCulley-Breustedt, Pam Ottenheimer, Susan Pfizenmayer, Marilyn Puchalski, Betty Tsai and Carole Williams.

In 2007, faculty member Betty Tsai noticed mothers struggling to raise their families while pursuing a college education. The observation was the crux that motivated Tsai to do something to help them.

Since its creation, the Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea event has now raised $315,000, representing 185 scholarships. Sponsors of the 17th annual Salute to Mothers Scholarship include: The First National Bank & Trust Co. of Newtown, Parx Casino, Shelly Law Offices, LLC., and Mignoni Jewelry.
