NEWTOWN, Pa. — The Council Rock School District will hold the first in a series of monthly community forums on Wednesday, August 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Newtown Middle School Auditorium, 116 Richboro-Newtown Road, Newtown 18940.

The series will begin with the topic of school safety and security, a hot topic across the nation following the school shooting and massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

Superintendent Dr. Andrew J. Sanko will join representatives from local police departments, emergency responders and staff to discuss Council Rock's practices in keeping its schools safe.

“During the superintendent’s search, the community ranked safety and security as the top priority, which is one of the reasons we will begin our community forums with this topic,” said Sanko.

During his introduction to the community as superintendent, Sanko said the district would continue its very close relationship with its first responders to ensure safe schools and safe buildings.

“We have monthly threat assessment meetings with our law enforcement partners. We have open lines of communication with all of our first responders ... We regularly go through a rigorous series of evaluations of our facilities and our systems. We look at possible external and internal threats.

“We will continue to have that strong working relationship with our police departments,” said Sanko. “We will continue to listen, listen, listen to our first responders when they talk to us about access points and we will continue our collaboration with those around us who are the experts. That also means updating our security features.”

Anyone who has questions related to School Safety and Security in the Council Rock School District is encouraged to submit them to forum@crsd.org. The deadline for submitting questions is 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9.

The community forum is open to the public and will be streamed live via the district's YouTube channel. It will also be available to view following the event.
