Sheriff Scam, Domestic Disputes Reported In Newtown Township

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Sept. 11 and 17:

September 11

At 11:42 a.m., police spoke with a resident regarding a scam. The resident reported receiving a call from someone impersonating a Bucks County Sheriff. The caller said that there was a federal case against them for failing to report for jury duty. The resident was told they had to respond to the Bucks County Courthouse and that there were two $5,000 fines that they had to pay at a different location, but was reassured they would get their money back. Fortunately, no money was lost. Police said the same scam was attempted several other times during this week, and thankfully no one fell victim to it. Please be aware of this scam, as law enforcement officers will not ask anyone to bring cash to any drop-box-type locations to pay fines or have warrants corrected.

September 12

At 4:54 p.m., Newtown Township Police responded to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the parties were separated, and simple assault charges were filed against an adult and a juvenile.

September 13

At 10:59 a.m., police were called to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, parties were separated, and charges for simple assault were filed against an adult.

September 15

At 11 a.m., police were called to McCaffrey’s for the report of an assault. It was reported that an employee of the store was assaulted by a delivery driver. The incident is under investigation.
