"Shin Ultraman" and "Airplane" Landing At The Newtown Theatre

Reimagining of Japanese superhero and 1980s spoof film coming to the big screen this week.

NEWTOWN, PA — “Shin Ultraman,” a reimagining of one of Japan's classic superheroes, and the 1980s spoof film, "Airplane," land on the big screen this week at the historic Newtown Theatre.

Shin Ultraman takes off on Thursday, January 12 beginning at 7:30 p.m. for a one-night-only screening while "Airplane" lands on the big screen at the theatre two nights later on Saturday night, January 14.

There’s never a dull day on Japan's newly established SSSP Kaiju defense taskforce, led by Kimio Tamura, played by “Drive My Car’s” Hidetoshi Nishijima. After a particularly challenging encounter, a silver giant descends from the sky to rescue the planet. Dubbed "Ultraman," this giant’s identity and purpose are a mystery.

When the passengers and crew of a jet are incapacitated due to food poisoning, a rogue pilot with a drinking problem must cooperate with his ex-girlfriend turned stewardess to bring the plane to a safe landing.

This fun-filled night will feature movie trivia and a roving flight attendant offering beer, wine and canned cocktails. Cost of this special event is $25 for everyone or $20 for theatre members and includes one drink (alcoholic or non) and free popcorn. Tickets are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com . Doors open at 7 p.m. and seating is general admission.

The film is best known for its fast-paced slapstick comedy, including visual and verbal puns, gags and obscure humor.
