Shir Ami Golf Outing Raises More Than $36K For Circle Of Giving Fund
Proceeds to support the Newtown congregation's community outreach efforts.
NEWTOWN, PA — Shir Ami Reform Synagogue of Newtown held its first annual Golf Outing with Mahjong & Cards on May 15 at the Philmont Country Club. The event brought together 150 members of the Shir Ami community to play golf and table games, and enjoy a luncheon featuring a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and other prizes.
Through the support of participants, sponsors and partners, the event raised more than $36,000 for the Shir Ami Circle of Giving Fund. The fund supports Shir Ami's mission in the areas of Spiritual Growth, Learning, Social Life, and Making an Impact. Specific efforts are focused in support of initiatives related to reducing food insecurity, increasing voter engagement, environmental justice and general community outreach.
“When we set out to create this event, we were very focused on making it a great community day with a strong philanthropic and fundraising element. In speaking with the attendees and seeing the numbers, it’s fair to say we absolutely achieved both,” said event co-chair Brett Cohen.
