Should Council Rock have full-day kindergarten?

The issue was discussed Thursday at a Council Rock School Board Academic Standards Committee meeting.

The Council Rock Parents Facebook page, a forum for issues surrounding Council Rock Schools, posted about the topic following the Thursday night meeting.

“I know that this is one of the most important topics to this community because facebook tells me that posts on FDK get more engagement than any others. But our board and administration don’t necessarily know that. They need to hear from you. They need to see you. I believe FDK is on the table in that it is being considered. The door on this is not closed. But I also know that in order to justify the expenditure the board will need know that this is extremely important to the community,” the post reads.

The post garnered plenty of feedback, mostly from supporters.

“It’s very hard to have half days esp. if you are a working parent. Not everyone can afford enrichment or after school,” one parent wrote.

Another said: “Keep in mind the election is coming up. If the community wants full day and the trend in the state educationally is absolutely full day, emails and coming to these meetings WILL have an impact. You only need 5 board members to vote yes. School boards all over the state who don’t already have it are considering it and figuring out how to make it work.”
