NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Smoothie King, which has been serving healthy smoothies to the Newtown community since 2013, has closed its doors after a decade in business.

The storefront is dark and there are no signs of life inside. On the Smoothie King Facebook page, a note reads, "Permanently closed."

Calls placed to the store were answered by the words, "Mailbox is full."

The local franchise opened in July 2013 at the Village at Newtown South on South Eagle Road. It quickly became a favorite stop for locals and for students from the nearby Council Rock North High School seeking a healthy, refreshing drink.

The owners frequently gave back to the community, providing products for events sponsored by the Newtown Township Parks and Recreation Board and other organizations.
