Speed Limit Reductions, Travel Restrictions In Place For Tuesday Storm, PennDOT Says

PennDOT has announced it will temporarily reduce the speed limit on several highways due to the impending snowstorm.

PennDOT has announced it will temporarily reduce the speed limit on several highways due to a snowstorm expected to begin late Monday and last through Tuesday.

Starting at 10 p.m. Monday, PennDOT will reduce the speed to 45 mph on the following highways:

  • Interstates 76, 95, 476, 676
  • U.S. Routes 1, 30, 202, 422
  • State Routes 63, 100 Spur and 309.

In addition, there will be a temporary ban on tandem truck trailers, empty trailers, towed trailers, buses, recreational vehicles and motorcycles.

PennDOT says it plans to deploy more than 400 trucks to plow the state highways throughout the Philadelphia region. Crews will treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

Earlier Monday, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced he had signed a"Disaster Emergency" due to Tuesday's expected snowfall.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service.

As much as 2 feet of snow could fall across Eastern Pennsylvania, the National Weather Service says. The storm, due to arrive late Monday, will also have strong winds. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour late Monday night and Tuesday morning are possible. Travel impacts are anticipated, including perilous driving conditions and delayed or cancelled flights.
