Stolen Vehicle, Theft Of Catalytic Converters: Newtown Police Report
Police also make two arrests for suspected DUI and investigate the attempted theft of vehicle.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between March 25 and 29:
March 25
- At approximately 1:18 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a blue Honda Accord operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Newtown Gate Drive. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

- At approximately 2:02 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a white Toyota Corolla operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Newtown Gate Drive. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
- At 3:53 a.m. police were dispatched to the area of Leedom Way for the report of a man dressed in black under a vehicle. Police said the suspicious subject was startled and fled the area, but it was discovered that a catalytic converter had been removed from the vehicle. On March 28 at approximately 9 a.m., police were dispatched to another home on Leedom Way in reference to a stolen catalytic converter. On March 26, the resident noticed their vehicle not sounding correct when it was started. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop where the owner was informed the that the catalytic converter had been removed. The incidents are under investigation.
March 29
- At 7:11 a.m. police responded to a residence on Cambridge Lane for the report of a stolen motor vehicle. The owner reported that the vehicle was unlocked at the time. Police are investigating the incident.
- At approximately 8:49 a.m. police were dispatched to Leedom Way for the report of an attempted motor vehicle theft. It was reported that a neighbor had texted the vehicle owner around 1:30 a.m. alerting them to check the vehicle after seeing four people around the vehicle. When the owner checked on the vehicle, they discovered that the steering column had been broken. While canvassing the area, police found that two other vehicles had been entered and gone through. While nothing was taken, the incidents remain under investigation.
