The Sycamore Grill is located in the space formerly occupied by Lilly's Cucina Loca.

Since the Sycamore Grill opened two weeks ago, Joe Feraco’s day has started at 4 a.m.

In those early morning hours, he works to run his construction business, J.B. Constructors. Then, in the mid-morning, he shifts gears and prepares for his role as part owner of Newtown’s newest restaurant.

On Dec. 19, the Sycamore Grill opened for business in the space formerly occupied by Lilly’s Cucina Loca on Sycamore Street. Feraco owns the grill with Frank Agabiti, the restaurant’s chef who has a family history in the business. His family owned Ray Agabiti’s in Morrisville.

The Sycamore Grill is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Dinner is available until 10 p.m. A bar menu, which includes sandwiches, salads and appetizers, is available throughout the day until midnight. The bar is open until 2 a.m.

“We picked Newtown because in my mind (Sycamore Street) is the best location,” Feraco said. “Everybody coming down to this end of town is a win-win."

The restaurant has an outside patio for dining and accessible parking. Feraco said he liked the layout of the restaurant because there’s a cozy pub-like atmosphere around the bar, as well as a dining room.

The interior of the restaurant has been completely redone. There’s a new bar, lighting, bathrooms, flooring, televisions and décor.

And so far, Feraco said people have been very receptive. “Business has been great," he said. “People are loving the food.”

The clams casino and the steaks, which are imported from Chicago, have been among the top sellers, Feraco said. Draft beers include Stella, Blue Moon, Victory and Miller Lite.

Lunch, which is served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., includes soups, appetizers, salads, steak sandwiches, a grilled Reuben, crab cakes, pasta and more.  “The lunch menu is casual,” Feraco said, adding the restaurant hopes to attract working professionals who are looking to get out of the office for a quick, tasty lunch.

Dinner, which is served starting at 5 p.m., includes main courses like surf and turf, veal, chicken and pasta.

A children’s menu, which includes pasta, chicken tenders and grilled cheese, is also available.

Happy Hour, which features drink specials and $5 appetizers, is held Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Feraco said the restaurant plans to have live musical entertainment beginning later this month.

Feraco said he’s focused on serving a great meal to all of his customers. “It’s all about the food,” he said.
