Temporary Shutdown Scheduled At Washington Crossing Bridge

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA – The Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge is scheduled to be shut down to all vehicular traffic between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has announced.

The temporary traffic closure will allow commission maintenance personnel to repaint the bridge’s centerline. The bridge’s pedestrian walkway will remain open.

rivers are encouraged to plan ahead and choose alternate routes to avoid travel delays when the bridge’s vehicular lanes are closed. The two closest Delaware River bridges are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge located 2.5 miles to the south and the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge located 6.9 miles to the north.

The Washington Crossing Bridge connects Upper Makefield Township in Bucks County, Pa., with Hopewell Township in Mercer County, N.J. The narrow 121-year-old truss bridge has a 3-ton vehicle weight restriction and 15 MPH speed limit.

The scheduled temporary bridge roadway closure period is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, and other factors.
