Total Soccer Announces New Soccer Speed, Agility and Conditioning Program

Six-Week Clinic Helps Improve Speed, Agility, Conditioning and First Touch

One of the most difficult challenges for student athletes is staying in shape during the offseason. To help soccer players maintain their fitness level, Total Soccer in Lambertville has launched a new speed, agility and conditioning program this winter.

Mike McNulty of Newtown, PA, who spent a decade as the strength and conditioning coach of the Rider University Division 1 men’s basketball team, will lead the new Total Soccer program. McNulty earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Texas Pan-American. A certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Mike is president of SPEED LLC. (Strength Performance Enhancement and Explosive Development).

“Soccer players can run up to 8 miles during a 90-minute game and it’s difficult for them to maintain a high level of conditioning during the winter,” says McNulty. “What you do in the offseason can impact the next season. The worst thing you can do during this time is nothing, especially if you have worked hard to build up your fitness level.”

“We are excited to bring this new strength and conditioning program to Total Soccer,” says Brian Thomsen, Senior Trainer, Total Soccer Lambertville. “Mike has the ability to create exercises and workout programs rooted in science that increase strength, agility, speed and quickness to help soccer players achieve their athletic potential.”

Total Soccer’s 6-week soccer specific speed and skill clinic is geared towards getting players faster, while maintaining excellent ball control. The program’s goal is to push players in a positive training environment that educates them on correct technique on and off the soccer ball. Each class is split up into three sections: warm-up, speed and agility, and on the ball conditioning. Each class will consist of a proper 10 minute soccer specific warm up to educate players how to take ownership over their pre-game preparation within the team setting. The following 25 minutes, players will be put through a speed and agility curriculum. The remaining 25 minutes of the session will be an intense, on the ball workout maximizing meaningful touches.
