Tri-Township U15 Remains Undefeated in Babe Ruth World Series

The Tri-Township U15 team has moved into the championship round as the number one seed from the National Division in the Babe Ruth World Series, which is being held this week in Jamestown, N.Y.

The local team won its fourth game in the tournament, beating Sarasota, Fla. by 7-4 today.

Robbie Welhaf's single in the top of the fifth inning scored the go-ahead run for Tri-Township, and they advanced to the championship bracket.

Welhaf's base hit was followed by an RBI single by Zane Moyer. An inning later, Tri-Township tacked on an insurance run when Devan Birch scored on a balk. That was all Welhaf, who earned the save, needed as Tri-Township improved to 4-0 in the World Series tournament.

Robert Knox (double) had three hits and two RBIs, Logan Sneed (double) and Moyer added two hits apiece. Bailey Hammer added an RBI single for the winners. Dalton Smoot worked four innings to earn the victory.

Tri-Township plays Friday evening against a team to be determined.  If they win Friday, Tri-Township will play in the championship game Saturday.
