Troop 29 Eagle Scout Christian Simms Completes a Service Project at Holy Family University

Troop 29's Christian Simms led a team in the installation of a Mary Garden at the university's Newtown campus.

Christian Simms is Newtown Troop 29’s newest Eagle Scout. As part of the requirements to earn the highest rank in scouting, Christian completed an Eagle Scout Service Project at Holy Family University’s Newtown Campus.

The project, a Mary Prayer Garden, took over 500 hours to plan and install. Christian led a team of fellow scouts, family and friends to install the hardscaped path, flower beds and benches at the garden. The completed path leads to a statue of the Virgin Mary which was donated by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to the university’s Believe, Lead Achieve organization. Donations to fund the project were made by friends, family and members of the university community. Kirshner Landscaping, Shady Brook Farm, Granieri Landscaping, and Olde Mill Impressions also contributed to the project.

Along his Trail to Eagle, Christian served Troop 29 as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. He is a brother in Order of the Arrow and has served Ajapeu Lodge #2 as 2nd Vice Chief for the past year. His days as a scout include extensive camping trips including those to Ockanickon Scout Reservation, Camp Hart, Wildwood Beach Jam, Elk Mountain and Philmont Scout Ranch. Christian was part of the group which won the coveted saber at the Scoutmasters Council Invitational Camporee at West Point Military Academy in 2015.
