Troop 99 Does a Good Turn for American Legion in Newtown
Boy scouts installed flags at the Newtown Cemetery ahead of Newtown's Memorial Day observance.
Boy Scouts from Troop 99 in Newtown recently “did a good turn” for the American Legion Morell Smith Post #440 in the days leading up to their annual Memorial Day Parade.
Scouts from the troop, along with their scoutmaster and a handful of parents, installed flags at the Newtown Cemetery on Washington Avenue on Sunday May 22, 2016 ahead of the Memorial Day observance. Working from a data base of the cemetery that was generated as part of Patrick Lawton’s Eagle Scout Leadership Service almost 10 years ago and updated by Eagle Scout Jacob Bauer as his Life Scout Project, scouts placed flags at the graves of veterans buried there.
Troop 99 Scoutmaster Ryan Pursel was joined by Will Shaulis, Stephen Jayne, Max Ondik, Tristin Kilgore, John Roache, Jordan Kosecki, Joshua Griffin, Patrick Sublete, AJ Laprete, Tyler Dekorte and Kyle Jaggard.
Troop 99 has a long relationship with the American Legion Post. Although they are chartered by the Newtown Grant Homeowners Association, they have long been hosted by the Legion.
