Troop 99 Eagle George Stockburger VI earns The Grand Slam of National High Adventure Award

George Stockburger VI, of Newtown, recently earned the Grand Slam of National High Adventure Award.

George Stockburger VI, of Newtown, recently earned the Grand Slam of National High Adventure Award. He is only the 28th person to earn the award which was created in 2014 by the Charles L. Sommers Alumni Association in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America to recognize those who have participated in activities at all four of the BSA’s National High Adventure Bases.

The Troop 99 Eagle Scout first visited Sea Base in the Bahamas as a scout. His next high adventure was a canoe trip to Northern Tier. George worked two summers at the Summit Bechtel Reserve as a zipline operator. He also worked also worked on site for the 2013 National Jamboree with the Jamboree Radio station as a producer. He trekked at Philmont Scout Ranch with Troop 99 as Assistant Scoutmaster this past summer.

“All four high adventure bases provided an amazing experience, but looking back at them I really enjoyed my time at Northern Tier. While carrying a canoe on your back and being out in the Canadian wilderness doesn’t sound that great, the scenery made all the difference” said Stockburger when asked which his favorite was.

Stockburger is a student at Pennsylvania State University where he majors in political science and sports journalism. At school he is a member of the ComRadio where he writes stories about the football team and also appears on pregame shows to discuss college football.
