UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — The Upper Makefield Fire Company has been awarded a $75,000 First Responder grant from Energy Transfer to help with the purchase and installation of a new diesel-powered standby generator at its main fire station on Taylorsville Road.

Energy Transfer is one of the nation's largest and most diversified energy infrastructure companies, with approximately 3,000 miles of pipeline and gathering system infrastructure operating throughout Pennsylvania.

The grant will help replace the fire company's existing generator, which has served the station for more than three decades and had reached the end of its reliable service life.

“This grant from Energy Transfer has helped offset the cost of replacing our standby generator at our main fire station, Station 71,” said Chris Muth, the president of the Upper Makefield Fire Company. “Our old generator was more than 30 years old and had reached the end of its service life."

Muth said as the Taylorsville Road station has expanded over the years, the old generator could no longer provide reliable backup power to all critical functions within the facility.

"This investment helps ensure we can continue serving the community during emergencies, as our main fire station serves as the hub of Fire/Rescue/EMS response, a unified Command Center and as a public shelter during natural disasters," said Muth.

“At Energy Transfer, we are committed to supporting the first responders who protect the communities where we live and operate,” said Joe Massaro, Lead, Public Affairs at Energy Transfer. “Through our First Responder Fund, we're proud to help Upper Makefield Fire Company strengthen its emergency preparedness and resilience. This new generator will help ensure firefighters can continue responding to emergencies safely and effectively, even during extended power outages.”

The Energy Transfer First Responder Fund provides grants to help further the primary mission of first responder organizations, including local fire departments; emergency medical services; county emergency management agencies; county, regional and local police departments; and other eligible agencies.

Grants are determined based on a competitive application and review process, and written applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the following cycle.
