UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — Police in Upper Makefield aren't just protecting and serving the residents of the township. Occasionally they are called out to assist one of the township's four-legged creatures.

"This time of year, we receive many calls regarding fawns that people believe may be injured or abandoned as they will not move when approached and remain in one spot for a long period of time," the department posted on Facebook. "However, this is totally normal behavior as Mom will have her baby bed down as she goes out to forage. The fawn can be there for a long time and should not be touched. Best to marvel at nature from afar," police advised.

There is a caveat, added police, which played out along a busy township roadway.

"Given the proximity to the roadway, it was sheer luck this fawn wasn’t injured by a passing vehicle," police said. "We were able to move the deer to a safer place, near where she was left, where she bedded down again, and where Mom will be able to find her upon her return.

"A huge thank you to the alert resident for seeing this fawn, for calling us, and protecting the fawn until we arrived," posted the department. "This is another reason why it’s great to be an officer here in Upper Makefield."
