Utility Work To Close Portion Of South State Street In Newtown
Beginning on April 8, drivers will be detoured around a PECO construction project in Newtown Borough and Township.

NEWTOWN, PA — Drivers in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township will see daytime closures on State Street beginning Wednesday, April 8, as PECO Energy starts utility construction in the area, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
PennDOT said the work is scheduled on State Street between Chancellor Street and Route 332 (Newtown Bypass). Weather permitting, the road will be closed and detoured between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays through Tuesday, June 30.
During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Route 332, Sycamore Street and Buck Road, and Centre Avenue. The agency announced the restriction as part of a utility improvement project being completed by PECO Energy.

PennDOT advised motorists to plan for added travel time near the work zone and along the posted detour. According to the announcement, backups and delays may occur while the daytime closure is in place.
Local access will be maintained at all times, according to PennDOT. That means people traveling to homes and businesses in the affected area should still be able to reach their destinations even while traffic is detoured during work hours.
