Odd Fellows Variety Lodge #37 Installs New Officers

Lanny Blyweiss, Yardley/Langhorne, was installed as Noble Grand (NG) of the Variety Lodge #37, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows during special ceremonies in October. Blweiss was one of 14 officers installed for the administrative year ending in September, 2017.

Odd Fellows Pennsylvania Deputy Grand Master Keith Hartman visited the lodge to install the slate of officers which also included: Vice-Grand Ron Chakler, Warden Charles Wise, Secretary Jack Shmukler, Treasurer Gene Dolnick, Right Supporter N.G. Charlie Shorten. Left Supporter N.G. Bob Smedley, Left Scene Supporter Phil Falkowitz, Right Supporter V.G. Sue Michener, Left Supporter V.G. Ed Kanfer, Chaplain Byron Goldstein, Inside Guardian Bob Tucker, Outside Guardian Dan Feiner & Jr.Past N.G. Charlie Blakemore.

Variety Lodge #37 is committed to performing charitable service and providing philanthropic support to Philadelphia area nonprofit organizations. Lodge members prepare meals on the first Wednesday of each month for older adults at risk at the Klein JCC. During the recent holiday season, volunteers ran a party for the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club and provided food and drink, stockings filled with gifts, and ran games for the children in attendance.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows began in 18th Century England. They were called odd fellows because people thought it “odd” that a group of people would organize to aid those in need without seeking personal recognition or compensation.

The organization took root in the United States and Canada in 1819, and has grown to 26 countries around the world. Then and now, the men and women who are members of this global fraternity are committed to making this world a better place to live.

Variety Lodge #37, which meets on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings of each month in Northeast Philadelphia, welcomes new members. For additional information, please email Lanny Blyweiss at elannyb@yahoo.com.
