Volunteers Needed For New Newtown Twp Human Relations Commission

The commission is being created following the passage of an anti-discrimination ordinance in Newtown Township.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township is seeking local volunteers to serve on a new Human Relations Commission. The commission is being created following the passage of an anti-discrimination ordinance last month.

The ordinance, which Supervisor John Mack has posted in full on his website, prohibits discrimination based on race, color, gender, religion, ancestry, genetic information, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, familial status, marital status, age, mental or physical disability, use of guide or support animals and/or mechanical aids.

The Human Relations Commission will be tasked with handling complaints through a fact-finding conference with the parties of the dispute in order to resolve the dispute without the need to hire lawyers or go to court, Mack explains.
