Walk for the Red Set for April 30 at Tyler

The three-mile long walk will benefit the Lower Bucks County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Tyler State Park is home to many running competitions. But on April 30, it will host a slower-paced event that is more about a charity than a trophy.

The Lower Bucks County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its eighth annual “Walk for the Red” event that morning. The three-mile long walk will benefit the chapter’s vital services.

“The walk is coordinated by our youth leadership team,” said Danielle Webb, communications director for the Lower Bucks County Chapter. “We are so proud of this group of active and engaged teens and pre-teens, who are working hard to ensure this event is a success.”

The Lower Bucks County Chapter hopes at least 200 people come out for the walk, which kicks off at 9:45 a.m. in the park’s Lower Plantation Picnic Grove. That area is accessible from the Swamp Road parking lot and located to the right at the turn ahead.

All walkers are encouraged to register by April 23,  although same-day registration will start at 9 a.m. Registration is $20; $15 for ages 4 to 12. Children 3 years old and younger are free.

Those who choose to walk as part of a team are asked to set a donation goal for the cause on top of the registration fees. Teams should register by April 23.

The total fundraising goal for this year’s walk is $16,000.

Webb said the specific causes that will benefit from the walk include the following services: the homeless shelter, health and safety, blood, armed forces, and both international and disaster relief.
