Ward One Newtown Borough Councilwoman Resigning Seat
Since joining council, Amy Lustig has been an outspoken advocate for pedestrian and bike safety in the borough.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Amy Lustig, who has represented the first ward on borough council since January 2022, has announced her plans to resign effective May 11.
Councilor Lustig cited a change in employment as the reason for her anticipated departure from Council.
Since joining council, Lustig has served as liaison to the Environmental Advisory Council, the Human Relations Commission, and the Walk Friendly Newtown Committee. She has been an outspoken advocate for pedestrian and bike safety in the borough.

Effective May 11, council will have 45 days to fill the vacancy.
The borough will be accepting applications, letters of interest and resumes to fill the seat through May 26. Letters should be sent to the attention of Borough Secretary Judy Musto at jmusto.newtown@gmail.com. They can also be mailed or dropped off at the Newtown Borough Hall, 23 North State Street, Newtown 18940.

Candidates must be registered electors from the borough’s first ward (anyone who votes at the fire station on Liberty Street).
Candidates are scheduled to be publicly interviewed at council’s June 7 work session. Council anticipates making an appointment at its June 14 council meeting.
The successful candidate will serve through the end of this year. Voters in November will select their new ward one representative who will serve out the remaining two years in Lustig’s term.
