Washington Crossing Park Invites Public To Celebrate George's 294th Birthday

The free, family-friendly Presidents Day weekend event will feature 18th-century activities, demonstrations, and birthday cake.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — Washington Crossing Historic Park will commemorate George Washington’s 294th birthday on Sunday, Feb. 15. The free, family-friendly event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer interactive activities and living history demonstrations throughout the park.

Children can participate in quill pen writing, play with 18th-century toys, and join a Continental Army soldiers’ drill. Visitors of all ages can observe colonial cooking, spinning, blacksmithing, musket firing, and artillery demonstrations. Guests are also encouraged to wear replica 18th-century clothing.

The event includes a site scavenger hunt for children, with a special prize for those who complete it. Activities are intended for ages 4 to 12, but all ages are welcome. The Visitor Center Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and food vendors will be present.

At 1:45 p.m., a group gathering is planned in the Visitor Center to sing “Happy Birthday” to General Washington. He will cut his birthday cake with a sword, and cupcakes will be served. The Caketeria is donating the cake.

Children aged 12 and under are invited to participate in the park’s “Let’s Draw George” contest. They can create a handmade birthday card or artwork featuring George Washington. Entries can be brought to the event, created on-site, or mailed in advance.

The Craft Center in the Riverview Room at the Lower Park Visitor Center (1112 River Road, Washington Crossing, PA) provides materials for creating artwork. Winners in two age categories (7 & under, and 8–12) will receive a family tour of the park, including Bowman’s Hill Tower, and have their artwork displayed in the Visitor Center.

All entries for the drawing contest must be received by February 15th. Each entry must include the artist’s full name, age, home address, and phone number on the back.
