Living Literature 2017 Chapter: An Arthurian tale - Storyline Synopsis: To the Victor goes the Spoils

The War with the Saxon’s comes to a bloody stalemate and Arthur convenes the Round Table council to discuss. However of late the King has been moody and secretive. Above all the knights fear for Guinevere who has not been seen in many months. Some knights press for peace and others to push their advantage. None know that Arthur’s real intention for this meeting is to gather his knights to meet with a Saxon delegation.

Guinevere manipulates Hengist into accepting Arthur’s terms for peace. Arthur uses the Saxon way of the strongest must rule to goad Hengist into a tournament where Arthur places the crown of Camelot on the line as prize. Simply defeat Arthur and the crown is yours. However he puts this challenge to any and all. The Saxons, regardless of their king, see an opportunity to grab power for themselves. Hengist, not to be outdone, puts his own crown on the line.

It is a winner take all tournament

Harry McNoggin, Trunk Show & Tree Wishes:

By day, a director, at the Hill School Center For The Arts, at play Burt Merriam is affable, old Harry McNoggin, wandering Renaissance Faires and Festivals... performing European based and original folk tales… using “storyteller’s theatre” to enhance the charm of storytelling with the spectacle of live theatre…and bringing family-friendly stories vividly to life. He is a Scottish peddler who likes nothing better than to meander about, pushing his replica of a Renaissance wheelbarrow, interacting with visitors and inviting them to make wishes and tie ribbons to his tree. Harry performs almost anywhere, indoors or out, on street or stage, whenever and wherever an audience can gather.

Lord Oakhart

A frequent character at festival raging from historical renaissance faires to modern steampunk, a new persona is blends in each and every faire. Although not a true member of this faire, or any, he walks the paths, drawing attention and adding a flaire. This year he will walk about as one of the tallest trees, walking the fairways.

Bard and Feathered—Sunday, September 17th performances @ 11:45 & 2:30 p.m.

The Village Faire is special that tyme & tyme again people, players, come home, and bard and Feathers is no different, Ana Nicholson a former player, left to pursue Adult Shakespearian training, but longed for the environment she found at VRF. She has described her past experiences as:

“I really enjoyed the two years I spent with the Village Ren Faire and am glad to see you reaching out. The Village Ren Faire Players was one of the more positive ren faire troupe experiences that I had. I enjoyed its family friendly focus, the general happiness of the players, their support for each other at rehearsals and the great job … training the students in the basics of improv, stage presence, projection and speaking form the diaphragm. I also liked the open door policy that the Players had of accepting everyone.”

Now, seeking to explore her adult training and experiences further she comes home to one of the most welcoming and inviting venues around, with an interactive show that like the faire, welcomes and reflects all, the show, the actors, are truly for all.

Although members of her group are sprinkled throughout the PA area including Bethlehem, Lancaster, Clifton Heights, Manayunk, South Philly and the Main Line. Her love of the faire have brought them to her home. Although some as students partaked in Bucks County Theater student festival, they have experienced the fantasy, the reality, called the Village Renaissance Faire.

What can you expect: Give them a suggestion and they’ll create a Shakesperean-style play before your very eyes! Trained by the Philly Improv Theatre’s Improvisational Conservatory, Fifth Folio, Bard and Feathered is a rogues' gallery of fun-loving improvisers. If you love Improv, Monty Python, period drama, and Shakespeare, come see Bard and Feathered!

Tara Spickler’s Orlando Furioso

Tara, a local who grew up in Newtown, attended the very first Renaissance Faire and has tried to stay in touch ever since. As a youth she attended with family and friends, and over time, she returned because the faire had become friends and family. In between she taught before and after school briefly at Wrightstown

Tara proudly proclaims “I have been a fan of the Wrightstown renaissance faire ever since I attended the very first one!”

Her play brings new flavor to the faire, she ads an Italian Renaissance twist. The play is based on an Italian renaissance epic poem, Orlando Furioso, and it will bring another world into a faire that has already featured English, French, and middle-Eastern Renaissance eras, and now, like the faire’s roots, it extends to another, welcoming all in the family.
