What's the Hottest Health and Diet Craze that Actually Works?

The cat is out of the bag. The genie is out of the bottle. I noticed it a few years ago while traveling on the west coast and then in Colorado. I see it happening all around us, and I am really impressed with this new “craze.” The new fad in diets, the next best thing, the new magic trick to losing weight, building more energy, feeling great while becoming healthier is (drum roll please….) eating healthy!

Eating natural foods and freshly grown foods is at long last becoming popular. Consuming processed foods and processed carbs seems to be on the way out. Weight loss is inevitable and starts immediately for those who have been transforming their diets. I have noticed this trend with many of my patients, friends and with myself. I’ve been making healthy smoothies for breakfast and snacks for several years. I’ve also been juicing vegetables and fruits for one full day every week. I see many others following suit. I see others avoiding sandwiches and processed carbs by ordering healthy salads and platters without the breads, pasta, rice, and starches. People are planning in advance by bringing healthy fruits, veggies, and nuts to work and to school. Every single day I see another happy convert.

Why are they so happy? They see and feel results within days! I just ran into a colleague who lost 30 pounds over the past six months. He looked great and I asked him what he had been doing and how he had found success. He explained that he had read just a few of my blogs about eating healthy and making smoothies. He has been filling up on smoothies for breakfast and big salads for lunch and dinner. He supplements his diet all day with fruits. He says that he is never hungry and now has more energy than ever! He has also been exercising regularly.

I noticed while traveling to the west coast several years ago that most restaurants, convenient stores and food outlets offered healthy smoothies, vegetarian options, and natural foods. The healthy offerings were ubiquitous on every menu, sign, and advertisement. This obviously makes it easier for people to choose healthy options and make better choices. People in those areas seemed healthier, thinner, and more vibrant. I’ve recently seen the same trend in our area. We have two new healthy natural food outlets offering fruit and vegetable beverages as well as other natural products.

The local supermarkets have organic food isles, prepackaged healthy veggies, nuts, and fruits for those on the go. The local Starbucks now offers salads, fruits, and many natural products. I believe this is a very positive trend that will allow more people to make better decisions about their diet and help them lead a healthier lifestyle. A convenient burger, hoagie, or slice of pizza is no longer the only choice for busy people on the go. Think about it the next time you are looking to grab a quick bite or snack with your kids, during work, or are out on an errand.
