NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — A thief with an apparent thirst for wine was nabbed by police in early March after attempting to steal his third bottle of liquor from the Fine Wine and Good Spirits store on South State Street.
In his monthly report to council, Newtown Borough Police Chief James Sabath said on two separate occasions in February the man had stolen two bottles of wine off of the shelves.
“The third time was a charm because he went back the first week in March and we got him for all three,” said the chief, noting that the man had stolen the same bottle of wine each time.

Looking ahead, the chief said the department will again take part in the county’s drug take back program.
“We will be one of the few agencies accepting sharps. We will also be distributing the overdose drug Narcan,” said the chief.
The drop off will take place on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newtown Fire Association, 14 Liberty Street.
The public is invited to drop off their unused, expires prescription and over-the-counter medications, vaping products, vitamins, pet meds and sharps. They will be collected for future safe disposal.
