6th Person Dies From Coronavirus In Montgomery County

The coronavirus death toll rose to 6 in Montgomery County on Monday. There now more than 500 cases countywide.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The coronavirus death toll rose to six in Montgomery County on Monday, as 75 new cases were announced. That brings the county's total up to 506.

The victim, a 82-year-old woman from Springfield Township, had underlying medical conditions, Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said. She was hospitalized at the time of her death.

Previous deaths in Montgomery County included a 95-year-old Cheltenham man, 61-year-old Norristown woman, a 62-year-old Whitemarsh man, and two men from Abington, ages 72 and 84.

The new Montgomery County cases announced Monday included the first cases in two new towns: North Wales and Telford. The virus has now spread to 51 of the county's 62 municipalities.

As of Monday afternoon, 48 people had died around the state from coronavirus, with 4,087 positive cases all told.

The first case of coronavirus in the Pennsylvania state prison system was also found in Montgomery County's SCI Phoenix this weekend. The discovery led to a statewide quarantine of state prisons.
