Help Name The Baby Ocelot At Elmwood Park Zoo

The Norristown zoo saw a major victory for its species survival plan this winter. Now residents can help name the celebrated baby.

Residents are invited to help name Elmwood Park Zoo's baby ocelot. (Elmwood Park Zoo)

NORRISTOWN, PA — As Elmwood Park Zoo celebrates the successful birth of a baby ocelot, an endangered species, they're asking for resident feedback on the name.

Three names have reached the final round. The ocelot will be named either Fia (meaning "wild" in Celtic/Portuguese), Lucia (menaing "light/born at daybreak" in Portuguese), or Yara (meaning "water lady/ water nymph" in Brazilian culture, and "strength/courage" in Persian).

The ocelot was born of the complex mating of Elmwood's two adult resident ocelots, Rio and Mateo.
