Another derailed train blocks Sterigere Street

For the second time in as many weeks a freight train has derailed at the Sterigere Street crossing near Stanbridge Street

A freight train has run off the rails near the Sterigere Street rail crossing and is blocking the road preventing traffic and pedestrians from traveling through. Officials are on the scene working on the problem but few could say how long it would take to clear the road.

on Friday, Jan. 7 kept traffic in the area at a crawl for almost five hours. In that case, another engine had to be brought in from the rear of the train to pull the still-railed cars back off the road.

The train today was heading back to Lansdale and fortunately already has an engine in position but workers on the scene are waiting for special equipment to get the derailed cars back in place.

While the Jan. 7 incident involved a split rail, today's trouble seems to be a track that simply buckled under the pressure of the train.
