April Events for Children at Norristown Public Library

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Some cool things are happening at the Norristown Public Library in April.

All children's programs are first come and first served, unless noted otherwise, libarians remind the public.

The library suggests you arrive early to guarantee admission. Doors will close and a sign will be posted on the door to the Children’s Learning Center when maximum capacity for each program has been reached. Programs begin on time:

Mondays through May 9

KidsMake – 4:30 pm - For kids who like to try new things. Crafts, science projects, building projects, electronics, and more! For kids in grades 3-6. A parent-signed release form is required to attend. Class size is limited.

Tuesdays through May 10

Get Ready for Kindergarten – 10:30 am – March 15 through April 12 (no class March 22) – Fun With Favorite Picture Book Characters -- Preschoolers learn skills they will need for school through stories, crafts, games, and sensory play. For children ages 3-1/2 to 5 with a caregiver.Registration required – call 610-278-5100 x 205 or stop by the children’s department to sign up. Class size is limited.

Tuesdays and Thursdays through June 9

Homework Helpers – 5:00-7:00 pm – Bilingual volunteers are available to help students with homework. For kids in grades K-6.

Wednesdays through May 11

Baby Lap Rap –10:30 am - Simple stories, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for your baby and you! Ages 0-24 months with a caregiver. Drop in.

Thursdays through May 12

Toddler Tickle Tales – 10:30 am - Stories, songs, fingerplays and simple games for the active toddler and early preschool child, followed by playgroup time with toys. Ages 2-4 with a caregiver. Drop in.

Thursdays through May 12

Evening Stories – 7:00 pm - Join Ms. Susan for stories, songs, and movement fun for the whole family. Ages 0-6. Drop in.

Saturday, April 9

A Blanket and a Book—12:00-2:00 pm—A read-in family event! Come and celebrate family as we share fantastic books for children that feature African-American characters, authors and illustrators. Presented by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Phi Beta Omega Chapter. A free blanket and book will be given out (supplies limited—first come, first served).

Saturday, April 9

Build! –10:30 am-12:00 pm - Create and build using a variety of great materials for the budding engineer: LEGO, K’Nex, Straws & Connectors, and more! For children in grades K-6—children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Drop in.

Saturday, April 16

Roll Over and Read! – 11:00 am-1:00 pm – Kids can read to specially trained therapy dogs. Bring your own book or read one of ours! For children in grades K-6. Drop in.

Saturday, April 16

Mont Co Comic Fest – 10:00 am-3:00 pm – Fans of all ages are invited to join us for our celebration of all things comic! Panels and workshops on drawing comics, writing your story, costume design, and more. Video game playing and activities for younger fans as well, including LEGO building, crafts and family activities, and movie showings. For all ages. Nature Crafts – 2:00 pm – Make some beautiful crafts using natural materials. For children in grades K-6—children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Drop in. Norristown areas schools early dismissal activity.
