Armed Man Captured After Car Theft In Upper Merion: Police

Authorities said he fled into a nearby restaurant and threw a loaded gun into a trash can.

UPPER MERION, PA — A man who stole a car fled from police while carrying a loaded firearm in Upper Merion, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 16 in the parking lot of the Bahama Breeze restaurant on 320 Goddard Boulevard.

Police saw a man and a woman walking toward the stolen vehicle, which they had staked out. When they saw officers coming, they both ran, police said.

The man, Khalif Ward, 26, of Philadelphia, ran inside the Bahama Breeze, where employees told police he threw the loaded gun into the trash can.

Both were quickly detained without further incident.

Ward was also wanted on firearms charges from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.
