Award-Winning Author Jerry Spinelli Comes Home

The Norristown native visited the library to talk area children about his work.

hosted an evening with Newberry Medal-winning author Jerry Spinelli, April 26. Spinelli, who was born in Norristown, reflects many childhood memories in his books. Prior to the event, many young residents of Norristown were treated to a free, signed copy of Spinelli’s book, Knots In My Yo-Yo String.

The evening was well attended and the children were well prepared with questions for Spinelli. Fifth grader Gregory Knauer from gifted Spinelli with a royal blue back pack emblazoned with the “STEWART WILDCATS” logo. Former Norristown Councilperson Rochelle Cubreath’s daughter Brianna presented Spinelli with a Norristown Bicentennial T-Shirt. Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro was also in attendace with his daughter Sophie. 

The event was part of Norristown's Bicentennial Celebration and was made possible in part by a generous grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council.
