Bridge Renovation Over Stony Creek In Norristown Moves Forward
Montgomery County announced on Thursday that 19 bridge projects will move forward, including one in Norristown.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County Commissioners approved plans on Thursday to move forward on 19 bridge projects across the county, officials announced, including one in Norristown.
The commissioners approved contracts and advertisements at a meeting Thursday, meaning that seven new bridges can move into the engineering phase and nine more will be prepared for construction, the county said. In addition, permission to advertise for three more bridges was granted, which means the county can now publicly request proposals from contractors.
“We want our residents to know that the county is working every day to make their roads safer, their neighborhoods more accessible, and their commutes more efficient,” Dr. Val Arkoosh, Chair, Montgomery County Commissioners, said in a statement. “That is why we have invested in 35 active bridge projects, and a map that shows residents our progress.”

The county has also launched an interactive bridge map which now enables residents to keep track of projects throughout the county as the develop.
Once you click on a colored dot which represents a bridge on the map, you can see the name of the bridge, the name of the road, the age of the bridge, its daily traffic, weight limit, and status of the work currently being done.

Arkoosh said that the county has completed 15 bridge projects since 2012 and that a total of 35 are presently active, including the 19 that were approved for their next stage of Thursday.
Commissioners have raised $3.3 million in funding for infrastructure through a $5 Motor Vehicle Registration fee that was added in Sept. 2016.
