CBD Gummies Sold In Montco Were Laced With Fentanyl, Heroin: DA

NORRISTOWN, PA — Fentanyl and heroin have been found in CBD gummies sold in Montgomery County and have already caused two overdoses, officials announced on Friday morning.

The lethal drugs were found inside gummies sold at three separate Tobacco Hut locations around the county, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said. Authorities did not elaborate on how the gummies, specifically the Strictly Delta Brand of "Delta 8 THC 600 MG Happy Cubes," became contaminated with the drugs. Search warrants were executed at the three Tobacco Huts on Thursday night.

“We don’t yet know whether other items from the stores contain deadly drugs," DA Kevin Steele said in a statement. "Testing is ongoing."

Steele added that the DA's office also does not know if this is a widespread issue at other Tobacco Huts or other businesses offering CBD in the state, but they're working with state and federal law enforcement to investigate further.

Testing at stores found that in addition to the Strictly Delta gummies that caused the overdoses, two other products, “Urb Extrax” and “Packwoods Coned" both contained fentanyl, the DA's Office said.

Officials did not specity which Tobacco Hut stores in the county had the drugs, but police chiefs from Whitpain Township, Montgomery Township, and Hatfield Township were all in attendance for Friday morning's public announcement. Those townships each have a Tobacco Hut location.

The two individuals who overdosed have recovered, police said.

Rapid testing was completed with the assistance of a special technology called "Ionscan" that was provided to Montgomery County by the Pennsylvanian National Guard.

Authorities are urging residents to not consume any flavors of the Strictly Delta brand of CBD gummies. If you have any in your possession, authorities say to call the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368 to turn them over for testing.
